Unlike Dan, I completed a life sentence - 28 years - at my second home, Midland Bank and HSBC. My roles included branch manager, corporate real estate manager and senior international manager, working across the South West from offices in Bristol, Bath and Swindon.

That experience gave me an in-depth understanding of banking, specialist knowledge of real estate and international banking, and considerable experience in structuring funding packages for businesses of all sizes. It also helped me build a strong network of professional contacts and a clear understanding of the commercial market and the challenges businesses face in today's economy.

I left the bank in 2014, firmly believing that I could support businesses more effectively from outside the banking system, with access to a much wider range of funding options.

My age dictates that I am a lover of 1980s music, and I currently enjoy seeing some of the so-called legends of that era in concert. I also enjoy sport and help coach my twin boys at their local club.

The best lesson I have learnt is never to reply to emails when you are hungover or annoyed.
