“Whilst I always felt that 18 years in financial services was a decent stint, it now appears I’ve joined a team containing people who have been in this industry as long as I’ve been alive! For the last 5 years I’ve specialised in complex Buy to Let, bridging and commercial property finance, with a focus on auction purchases and completions within 20 working days.
Although being able to feel young again was a motivating factor in joining the team (and at my age that doesn’t happen often!), it was mainly because they are the most welcoming and knowledgeable group I’ve encountered in the workplace. Others mention joining SWBF as being like joining a family and I can whole-heartedly agree. I hope that my skills and experience will add to the nearly 300 years (yes, I added it up!) that the company has served in finance and help take the business forward in the future.
The opportunity to become self-employed and have more control over my career was a huge part of taking this step, and I believe that I can now better help those in need of complex finance solutions, making the most of the new freedom I have to visit clients and sites. Whether it’s financing large HMO’s, lease creation within multi-unit freehold blocks, incorporation proposals for individually-owned portfolios, or structured conversion/development finance, as well as much more besides, I feel that I’m now best-placed to assist, with the added benefit of a great team alongside. Relationships in this industry are key, and I’ve spent considerable time building up a professional and personal network that will now be put to use in a more effective way. Having surveyors, architects, solicitors, banks and private lenders, as well as clients working in every aspect of property, means there is always an opportunity for mutually-beneficial introductions. If this network can work together to further their property goals then everyone can become more successful – and that’s why we’re all in this game after all!
Like most of the others, I am passionate about rugby, although being a Bristol supporter hasn’t been the easy ride that some of the Bath and Exeter fans have had over the years! I follow sport around the world too, with the Japan World Cup last year the highlight, however my girlfriend is catching on and now checks sporting calendars before I’m allowed to book a suggested holiday destination. It is quite hard to find a reason to go to rural Belgium for anything other than Formula 1 but that’s where the salesperson in me will have to prove himself I guess!
Beyond the various sporting events I like to attend and watch, I love to travel (not always to watch sport) and explore many of the fine restaurants this region has to offer. Other than that, a simple evening in with my girlfriend and whichever gin we’re trying that night is the perfect way to relax and unwind – Although the mobile’s always on for those urgent enquiries!”
